The Challenge

When we started this project, Achieve Together were facing a real uphill struggle. We knew that we needed to help them stand out from the crowd because, Brexit and COVID meant that they were operating in a market where there were over 1,000,000 job vacancies, 100,000 of which were in the care sector!

With other sectors (such as Retail and Logistics) offering hourly rates 20-30% higher salaries, we knew that we had to win differently – by celebrating who Achieve Together are and the magic they can bring to challenged lives.

Our Approach

We did the usual focus groups, leadership interviews and surveys. But rather than just referencing their current employees, we also included people they support by asking them what they wanted, needed and cherished about those who supported them.

All of this invaluable insight showed that they support people with some of the most complex and challenging learning disabilities in society often suffering from profound autism or deafness. So being a Support Worker for Achieve together is a very tough job and you need to be resilient, totally committed and want to change lives bit by bit, day by day.

There can be long periods when it feels support workers are making little or even no progress. Then suddenly the clouds part, the sun shines and you have made a breakthrough that will last a lifetime. These leaps can seem tiny to the rest of society – the person you support might have learned to brush their teeth, make a cup of tea, or simply decided to get out of bed that day and overcome their often-overpowering depression/anxiety. But know that they have helped them take a step towards living their best life – that’s a feeling like no other.

We wanted to put this mixture of gritty challenge but life changing reward front and centre of the employer brand.  Achieve Together put the people they support at the heart of our everything they do, and this would be no exception, so we wanted to avoid simply using their pictures, instead we wanted to bring their stories (and their Support workers’ stories) to life authentically and powerfully.
